California Revels

California Revels is 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Oakland, California. 

Now in its 34th year, California Revels promotes the celebratory and community-building power of the performing arts through a unique and innovative form of musical theater that embraces diverse cultures and ritual tradtitions to connect an audience of many ages and backgrounds. 

Crossing religious and ethnic boundaries, and appealing to young and old alike, Revels blends traditional music, dance, ritual, and folk plays, all presented by highly talented professional actors, musicians, artists, directors, and "bearers of tradition" from many cultures, along with a large volunteer chorus of community members ages 7 and up.

Typically highlighting a particular culture and period, California Revels produces the annual Christmas Revels -a joyous production of the Winter Solstice, welcoming the return of the light back from the darkness of winter. 

California Revels celebrates life, seasons, and culture the rest of the year round with a series of community-based performances highlighting our topnotch actors and musicians in more intimate settings.
